Good question.  My name is Cody, and I hail from a lonely town in northwest Alabama.  My hometown has only a few thousand people, but lots more churches and banks (what small town doesn't?).

I am a 2002 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, with a B.S. in Meteorology.  Now at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, I have finished my master's degree and am closing in on a Ph.D., studying numerical modeling results of severe storms and supercells.  My main areas of interest are:

- mesoscale meteorology (esp. thunderstorms, tornadoes) and short-term forecasting
- societal impacts of storms and weather events
- education, course content, and instructing in meteorology

Although I do some storm-"chasing," it's not high on my priority list now that I'm in Alabama.  I like the science a little more than the thrill of the chase, and poor chase terrain (at least compared to Oklahoma!) makes it too risky.

In addition to spending countless hours watching radar and satellite loops, I am a high school basketball official and was a USSF registered soccer referee for a couple years.

 

Even if you and I know each other, there are probably some things you don't know about me quite yet.  This might be the case even if we're good friends.  Well, in case you ever wondered, or even if you didn't, here are some little-known facts...

- I despise cold weather.
- I am an alumnus of the Oklahoma Chapter of Triangle Fraternity.
- My car's nickname is the "Charcoal Chariot."  (Charcoal is the official color on the title.)
- Misery, Spaceballs, and American Beauty are three of my favorite movies.
- I once vowed to give up my virginity for Lent (you have to give up something, right?).
